the democrats and president obama have been very explicit that it is their intention to raise the debt ceiling and to do so with no conditions whatsoever just to keep borrowing and borrowing and borrowing money without any structural reforms to fix the problems. that is an intellectually consistent position. i think it is a dangerous position but it is at least candid. and it is the reason why for every day for 60 days the democrats have opposed taking the debt ceiling off the table in this discussion. but unfortunately one of the reasons we got into this mess is because a lot of republicans were complicit in this spending spree and that's why so many americans are disgusted with both sides of this house. because we need leaders on both sides to do as my friend from virginia said, to roll up our sleeves, to compromise, to work together and fix the problem, fix the enormous fiscal and economic problems, stop bankrupting our country. what this issue is all about is very simple: will we allow the debt ceiling to be raised in an unlimited amount, with just a 50-vote threshold? and if the a

that's why barack obama won. we had to bring him along the way sometimes with us, didn't we? [speaking spanish] huh? [speaking spanish] [applause] we were together twice. many front of the white house denouncing the policies of breaking up our families with others. that wasn't easy for me to do that to a president who i love and i respect. who i fought so hard to get elected. but you know, we've pushed. he said he couldn't do it. remember, he said, oh, i can't do that, i can't stop the deportation. what he said he couldn't do, we kept saying he could. and in the end there are 500,000 dreamers today many this country -- in this country who have documents, they have driver's licenses. [applause] he was work permits. [applause] so when i come here today to say it's not a democratic, it's not a republican solution, we have walked that walk before. now, once the president embraced our youth and said he wasn't going to deport any more dreamers, right? then he did those tv commercials in which he said what? he said i did it because i saw in those young people, those undocumented you

president obama has bragged he's no longer racking up the record-setting deficits he did in his first four years. those self-congratulating straiments will be short-lived. ththe deficit will soon start to rise. america's debt will continue to grow and entitlements and interest payments are on the course to overwhelm the entire federal budget. the american people deserve to hear the truth, deserve to hear the truth about the tough choices we must face together as nation. they also deserve an open and honest discussion about how we're going to make those choices. the president as well as congressional democrats ought to rethink their strategies of leadership via blame game and saving via spending. the president and democrats have an opportunity today at the white house to put the games aside and work with us on opening up the government, on delivering fairness for all americans, and on actually reducing our debt. i hope they use this meeting to finally do what's right and to help the american people. thank you, mr. president. i yield the floor. i suggest the absence of a quorum. the pre
